Well, 2007 is not fully two days old and I am ready to make my first nomination for what I just decided would be the first annual “Idiot of the Year Award”: Pat Robertson. In case you missed it, Pat Robertson today announced that God told him that there would be a terriorist attack in the United States in late 2007, probably after September but that it would probably not be nuclear. What a giant load of crap! (Read the CNN.com article about Robertson’s comments here.)
Now if ever someone was fooled by randomness, Pat Robertson would be high on the list. Robertson claims that he predicted President Bush’s wins over Gore and Kerry and he explains last year’s prediction of major natural disasters has been partially proven correct by the snow storms in December in the mid-west! But, if the funniest comment was as follows:
“I have a relatively good track record,” he said. “Sometimes I miss.”
Well, Pat, the reason is that the world events that you predict are the result of randomness and you are filling in a backstory. Pat, you really need to read Fooled by Randomness because you are really, seriously being totally fooled. That and you’re scaring old people.
