I get the whole loyal soldier routine but I really think the public debate (if it really even deserves to be called that) needs a voice of experience and moderation and I wish Powell (who has at least some stature) would stand up and advocate for a viable solution in Iraq.

The Man Law commercials are strangely funny and, despite their popularity, have not helped their sponsor sell their product. Universal health care, I think, is probably a very popular idea but our own stupidity (in the form of our political process) prevents us from implementing it. It’s kind of embarassing being an American sometimes.

The Duke Lacrosse scandal, and the recent 60 Minutes story on it, point out the abuse that is so easy to perpetrate by prosecutors who have way too much power in our legal system with insufficient checks and balances on that power and an incentive to abuse it.

I follow politics for the sport of it and I take it about as seriously as I take sports (very interested during the game for the sport aspect of it but, at the end of the day, I turn off the TV and go about my daily life because I have realized that it doesn’t affect my life all that much) and reading stories like this makes me realize that the political process deserves little more respect than that.
